The author begins his book by noting that the cures, treatments, medicines and household hints in this book are for educational and entertainment purposes. Nothing seen in the book is being offered in any way as medical advice. With that said Moynahan goes on to discuss a variety of items including wrinkle control, a cure for drunkenness, earache relief, the use of "female pills" and the new (circa 1890s) and revolutionary Electro-Magnetic Belt.

It is not certain how many of the sportin' women were exposed to these different treatments and household hints but it is felt that a majority of them were. Whether they were women who worked in the lowly saloon or crib or were found in a high class bordello, at one time or another they all would have had need for most of the remedies found in the pages of this book.

The book centers around sportin' women of the American West from 1860s to about 1910. It includes many illustrations and line drawings. Opposite each cure, treatment or medicine is a story, fact or observation about prostitution.
